Give Us This Day

The microwave. Uber. Amazon Prime.

There’s no denying we live in an instantaneous culture. While our daily tasks may be easier with such helpful tools, our souls were never meant to thrive off of a microwave mentality. We were made for the long haul.

We were made for eternity.

We may scour material that helps us quickly climb the corporate ladder, lose weight, or increase productivity, but there is no quick fix to satisfying the soul. Our aim is, as Eugene Peterson said, “a long obedience in the same direction.” We can lead the world to Jesus by rebelling against the pressure to build our lives around instant gratification, instead choosing to build around the Kingdom coming, on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Heaven starts today. Today’s provision is for tomorrow’s Promised Land. Jesus,

Give Us This Day.
